However what started with jubilation ended with Chaos, as a massive crowd gather around M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading to a stampede that claimed 11 lives and left more than 50 injured.

RCB’s Historic Win: A Dream Fulfilled
On June 3, 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in a dramatic final held at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. The Stampede: How the Tragedy Unfolded
The stampede occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on June 4 outside Gate number 4 of the M. Images and videos circulated on social media showed footwear, bags and clothing scattered across the stadium entrance. Emergency personnel was seen carrying injured people on stretchers. Several people franted due to suffocation and dehydration as Bengaluru recorder temperature of 36 degree Celsius with high humidity making it worse.
Some videos showed the team’s open bus parade continuing for a brief while, unware of a chaos at the stadium gates. The parade was immediately cancelled once the extent of the disaster became known.
The Arrests: Who is Nikhil Sosale and Why Was He Arrested?
In the aftermath, Bengaluru police launched an investigation. 4 people were arrested, including Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing and Revenue for RBC. He was taken into custody at Kempegowda International Airport while attempting to flight Mumbai.
Sosale is alleged to have been the main liaison between RCB and rhe event management company. Police clain that he, along with 3 executives of DNA Entertainment Networks, was responsible for mismanaging entry protocols, overselling passes, and falling to coordinate with tge city Police regarding the crowd size.
Government Response: CM Acts Swiftly
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah took Swift and unprecedented action. He is suspended five Senior Police officer including Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda, sitting lapses in planning and execution.
In a press briefing, the CM announced:
- ₹10 Lakh compensation to each deceased person’s family.
- Free medical treatment to all injured victims.
- A judicial inquiry under a retired High Court Judge to investigate the stampede and fix responsibility.
- Orders to arrest any official, including those from KSCA or RCB, found negligent.
The state government has promised that the investigation will be completed within 30 days, and a report will be made public.
